For a couple of years now, I have been saving pill bottles. I hate to just throw them into the land fill and I figured there must be a crafty way to recycle them. Guess what! I came up with a way!
Every year for Halloween, our church does a chili cook-off with grilled hot dogs out in the back parking lot, and then we open our trunks and many people decorate them for the holiday and the kids go around Trunk or Treating. It is a lot of fun and give the kids a safe place to celebrate with people they know. And, actually, we attract people from around the neighborhood as well! Well, like I said, many people decorate their cars. I always want to, and I have done a few little things, but frankly when my kids were young, it was all I could do just to get them costumed! But, now that I am an empty nester, all I have to worry about is decorating my car! So far, I've come up with this cute little lighted garland.
Seriously, kids would have so much fun doing these. Here is how I did it.
This garland should light up the hatch of my car pretty well, along with a real Jack-O-Lantern or two. Now I shall see where else my mind wanders for the decorations this year!
It is getting to be that fun time of year again with loads of activities for the little ones with all of the holidays coming! A really nice gift for grandparents are those photo books! My son and DIL gave my husband and I one of our grandson's first year and we absolutely love it! I am thinking of compiling one with all of my grandchildren together.
Mixbooks looks like a great company for doing just that. I have heard many recommendations for them. Have any of you tried their books? When you sign up for their site, you get up to 50% off. They have 405 themes that you can use, or you can start from scratch and totally build your own theme. I think this company is worth checking out! Let me know your experiences if you have already used them.

In December and January, when everyone else is buried in snow, living in Phoenix is just amazing. But, I struggle with September and October because when you want to be enjoying Fall weather and Fall food, it just doesn't happen. Well, the weather doesn't, but I tend to make the food happen anyway because, I mean, you are just in the mood for it by then. One of the things I love to eat in the Fall and in the Winter is a delicious soup. We have featured some really good ones here on the blog, plus I have found some delicious ones on other web pages and I thought I would kick start YOUR Fall menu with some of our favorites!
There you have it! Some of our Fall soup faves! And it isn't even Friday! Come back tomorrow for Friday Faves. But, in the meantime, check out some of these soups for your Fall menu. I hope you are starting to get the nice crisp weather where you are. Think of me still sweltering in Phoenix and send some of it our way, will you? If you have a favorite soup that you love to eat in the Fall, give us a heads up! If you blog and it is on your site, link us to it in the comments! We'd love to visit!

Hi everyone! Hope you had a wonderful Labor Day holiday! My long weekend started out great with the birth of a new granddaughter! We now have 10 grandchildren, 5 boys and 5 girls and we love them all so much.
Today I am finally sharing with you the beginnings of my new craft room. Madalynn has moved in with a roommate leaving my husband and I as empty nesters, at least until Jake comes home from his mission. So, the time of purging, organizing and repurposing rooms in our home has begun. The bedroom that always belonged to my daughters has many built in shelves and I have decided that it will be the perfect place to make my sewing/craft/blogging room. I am really excited about it. Alicia came over from California to help me get started. Unfortunately, we forgot about pictures until we had begun, so we only have one to show you as the before, plus there is one of the ugly floor.
I felt like it was going to be a beast to cover those dark blue stripes and sponge painted walls and stamps. But, we went to Lowe's and found Valspar Signature High Hiding Paint +Primer that did such a great job. Two coats covered everything perfectly!
In this small room, we didn't use rollers, but we used brushes. It really didn't take long to paint a wall and it takes a lot less paint than it does to roll. That roller absorbs a lot of paint and there is so much waste. Also, there was a lot of cutting in to do anyway with all of the molding and shelves, so it was easier to stick with brushes. Just get good ones, you don't want brush hairs coming out into your nice paint. We like angled brushes. They are great for cutting in. And, here's a tip*, save the cardboard holder it comes in. After you clean in, put it back in it to keep the brush's shape.
For all of that cutting in, we used Frogtape, a green painter's tape that sticks better than ever and gives crisper lines. (I wish I had had it when I painted those stripes!)
Isn't it amazing the difference a coat of paint can make? How do you like it? I am so happy to keep you updated on our progress. We have a few fun things up our sleeves that I can't wait to do and to share with you!
If you have any ideas for the floor, please share! Definitely not carpet, but nothing too expensive.
