Making your food and snack table a little creepier can be easy with a few items from Dollar Tree! This Spider Candy Dish was only $2.00 to make and adds just the right amount of creepy whimsy to your decor. Here is how to do it!
Supplies:
Since spiders have lots of eyes, I loved these Halloween Monster Hershey Kisses with the eyeballs and fangs printed all over the foil wrapper! It is exclusively found at Target. The colors went perfectly with the purple legs of my spider candy dish. But, of course, my grandchildren don't mind what kind of candy is in the dish. They love the dish and whatever candy is in it!

Wow! I can't believe that we have already hit Friday Faves #72! It is kind of cool to like so many things! But, honestly, before today, I can't say that I have always been a big fan of trail mix. I saw on my calendar of unusual holidays that today is National Trail Mix Day. When I saw that, I thought ugh! What is there to say about that? To me, the best part of trail mix is the M&Ms! It always bugs me that when you get to the bottom of the bag of trail mix, all that is left are some crumbs of cereal and nuts. So, I got to thinking, what if I make a personalized trail mix that I will really love? And no, it can't be just the bag of M&Ms. It has to have other healthy stuff in it as well. Well, I began to poll my family to find out what their favorite ingredients are in trail mix and then I made our own personalized recipe for it! I will share it with you later in this post! Then, if our faves are your faves you can just use my recipe. If not, you can take your own poll make your own personalized trail mix recipe.
After you make the mix, it is nice to package it up to either take hiking or to give away, or just to keep it fresh for snacking. It won't last long. Maddy and I have been munching on it all day. That serves 12 thing is just a guideline. But, here are some ways to package it before you eat it all.
So, Happy National Trail Mix Day! That is our personalized mix. What would yours look like? Let us know your favorite ingredients!

I have loved Hot Fudge Sundaes since I was a child. I learned that love from my mom. It was always a special treat to get to go to Foster's Freeze in our little town and get a Hot Fudge Sundae! I could have eaten that hot fudge sauce all by itself, but tasting the hot fudge with a bit of the cold ice cream was like going to heaven with every bite. Over the years, I have tried many different recipes for Hot Fudge Sauce. I haven't really found one that replicates that flavor of long ago. They often have chocolate chips in them and they harden too much when they hit the cold ice cream. But, the other day I was going through an old recipe collection when I came across what is possibly the simplest and closest to the mark version of a hot fudge sauce that I have ever tried. The beauty of this recipe is that I already had everything for it available in my kitchen staples! So, I put my baby granddaughter in her highchair and we got busy making it! It made a nice good sized batch, cost very little and the taste is great! I immediately spooned some over a bowl of my favorite mint chocolate chip ice cream, which it melted down the sides of, then squirted on some whipped cream. I tasted it and pronounced it good! (Look up at the top picture and see the goodness that I am describing!)
So, after making this delightful treat, which believe me is a relief to eat during our terribly hot summer, I started wondering what types of toppings my family loves best on their ice cream. Isn't it weird that after all of these years I don't really know! So, today for Friday Faves, the question is, "What is your favorite ice cream topping?"
I polled my family and here are the answers I received:
I was surprised when Alicia answered that her favorite topping is Gummy Bears! I guess she likes something a little chewy to go with her smooth ice cream. She followed that up with sprinkles. I always have lots of those on hand in my Hot Cocoa Bomb Supplies.
Maddy says she loves brownie bites and cookie dough bits sprinkled on her sundaes! I have to agree that those are delicious!
My DIL Korina likes the chocolate that forms a shell on the ice cream when it hits the cold. Smucker's Magic Shell is available in a 4 pack from Amazon! Her husband, my oldest son Aaron, predictably answered with Bacon Bits as his choice!
My other DIL, Jessica, likes good ol' Hershey's chocolate syrup! My husband feels the same.

What are your favorite toppings? Have you tried Bacon Bits? That salty sweet taste might be pretty good, I do like bacon on donuts. Let us know in the comments!

Thank you for your support. Because St. Patrick's Day is in March, Alicia is sharing recipes from Ireland with us this month. Yesterday she shared this delicious Bacon and Cabbage Pot Pie. She forgot to mention in her post that when my husband and I did our DNA tests, he found out that he is 38% Irish! So, while St. Patrick's Day has always been one of those holidays we have given a fun nod to by having green milk at breakfast, wearing green and eating Corned Beef and Cabbage and maybe the occasional shamrock shaped sugar cookie, we now feel that perhaps we can add a little more to the fun of what we can now consider part of our family heritage, ha ha! Madalynn and I came up with a couple of fun printables to decorate the house with. We worked on them independently, but it is funny that we both came up with kind of tongue in cheek ideas that go with the idea of being pinched if you aren't wearing green! My idea involves an owl, of course. You can print off this little owl print today by clicking the button below. Madalynn's printable is more direct! Ha Ha! I love it! This one we are putting up for our subscribers, so go to your subscriber's printable link. What? You haven't subscribed? Then go to the top of the page and do it now! There are a lot of printables on that link just for you. We showed how to frame interchangeable printables on this post. I keep adding to my collection. Next, I thought my grandchildren would get a kick out of some little shamrock mints. They helped me put the little decorative pearls on them, and it was so hard for them to wait for the mints to dry and be ready to eat! I used my Wilton Cookie Press to make these St. Patrick's Day Mints, so they were so simple to form. I am happy that I have found another use for my Cookie Press besides using it for Spritz Cookies! If you are planning a party for St. Patrick's Day, Alicia had some great ideas that she shared last year! Check out this post and see! So there you go! Some simple ways to add a little fun to your St. Patrick's Day! Watch for more recipes from Alicia this month as well! Whether you are celebrating your Irish heritage or just enjoying the St. Patrick's Day tradition, we hope you have a ton of fun! |
