Fancy journals that make you want to crack them open and write your inner most thoughts can be pricey. If you are a prolific writer of journals, crafting your own journal might be a fun option.
My creative granddaughter is always on board when it comes to doing a new craft or activity. I had been toying with the idea of creating journals using inexpensive composition books for awhile and when I mentioned the idea to Jayda, she was all in!

Besides being the Primary Chorister at church, one of the other jobs I have is to help on our women's groups activity committee. I work along with some very creative and inspired women.
Our church's women's group is called Relief Society. As you can tell by that name, the original purpose of the organization is to give help and service to others. That is still one of the main focuses of the Relief Society. One of the ways that we serve is to minister to one another. We get to know, love and serve one another and become dear friends. In order to keep everyone in the ministering loop and to promote awareness of one another and to encourage women not to forget to look for ways to minister, we sometimes have activities to give ideas and encouragement. This is especially important when new people move into our area and we all need to get to know one another. This S'mores activity is one of those times that we planned for this and it was very successful and a lot of fun! A little over a week has gone by since we came home from our wonderful family reunion in Star Valley Ranch, Wyoming! Maddy is going to tell you all about it in a later post. But, since we have been focusing this summer on cooking with kids, I wanted to let you know that our cooking fun continued while we were in the beautiful cabin that we stayed in. As with any vacation, one of the highlights was the great food that we ate! We arrived at the cabin on Father's Day, which also happened to be my husband's birthday. We celebrated that evening with a cake made by my granddaughter, Shyanne. Actually, to feed all of us, she made 2 cakes! When it came to frosting, we had to improvise because we only had enough powdered sugar for one cake, but thankfully some chocolates that I happened to bring along came in handy! We just melted them on top and spread them like a frosting! One of the best things about cooking with my grandkids is the times that we laugh and talk and get to know each other. I love watching my grandchildren interacting with their cousins and develop good relationships. Since one of the things I did with my grandsons was make cookies from a store bought tub of cookie dough, it was pretty simple and there wasn't measuring or math involved, except that I did explain rows and columns to them as we scooped the dough on to the cookie sheet. I made a little video, (very amateur) of a couple of our cooking moments that we captured. These show cousins working together and Aunt Maddy with nephew, Kyle, working together. I hope you enjoy it and that it inspires you to make some cooking memories with your kids and grandchildren. Past Cooking Videos:

Thank you for your support. The weather in Phoenix has been pretty nice lately! Sorry all of you snowed in people, but this is the time of year that we're glad to live in the desert. Alicia and her family were here for a little less than a week and she helped me do some gardening. We took a trip to Dollar Tree and while looking for things for the garden, we found something to keep the kids entertained out in the nice weather! Dollar Tree has adorable Fairy Garden figures in many styles. I let my granddaughter pick out some of the pieces. At $1.25 a piece it was a real bargain! Another nice thing is that many of the packages have multiple figures. Here are some link to some of the choices: When we brought the figures home, My granddaughter found the stump that she wanted to use to make her fairy garden on. I also scavenged my craft supplies and found her some odds and ends to embellish her fairyland with. Her brother joined in the fun as well. They gathered rocks from the yard and grass to spruce things up. Their creations turned out so cute! I picked out our fairy pieces in the store, but you can order the entire set of your choice from Dollar Tree online as well. As far as I can tell, the price online is still $1 per piece instead of the store price of $1.25! If you have them shipped to the store, you can get free shipping! These little fairy pieces will be a great way to entertain kids in the backyard while the weather is springlike! More fun posts about entertaining kids:
