Around our house during the holidays, playing games is big! Since we have such a big family, it is a lot of fun to have games that can include everyone who wants to play. I've written a couple of other posts suggesting party games and board games that include a lot of players.
Well, I got to thinking that one classic game that can include everyone is Charades. If your young ones enjoy watching Frozen II, they will recognize Charades from the beginning of that movie. I thought wouldn't it be great to have a Christmas version of Charades all ready to go? So, I sat down with Lindsey and a few of my grandkids and we brain stormed ideas that would be great to include in a game of Christmas Charades. Let me tell you, we did pretty good! This game includes 83 items to act out in 6 different categories!
I sent the list to Alicia, and she designed the rules and tips sheets and the cards. Then, I printed them all off on some cute coordinating Christmas card stock. You can pick up a pad of Christmas card stock at Hobby Lobby for a good price.
Now, all you have to do is click the button to get the PDF file, print them off and cut them apart with a paper cutter. Then, you are ready to play! You're welcome! Merry Christmas!
So, go ahead, click the button! (Be sure you have plenty of red ink. Mine came out a little orange.) You could also send them to Staples or Office Max to get them printed if you want. You can always use white card stock instead of the Christmas print, but I love the Christmas print.
I have to confess that I accidentally printed the rules in landscape at first. I had to reprint that part. But, it turned out to be a lucky thing because I cut out the title of the game and taped it with wide clear tape onto a manila envelope to label the game and store it to use again and again. You could always just print the first page twice, or you could laminate the rules onto the front and back of the envelope. If you make it look fancy enough, this could even be an inexpensive gift to a friend or neighbor with a large family. (By inexpensive, I mean practically free, except for the paper and ink!)
We even included some blank cards so that you can add some of your own ideas to act out! I already thought of one we forgot, "Deck the Halls." Hmm, how would you act out "Deck" or "Halls" in charades? Could be a tricky one!
I can hardly wait to have a familt get together and play this version of Charades! I think it will be a ton of fun! I hope that you will enjoy playing Christmas Charades with your family as well. Let me know if you think of good things to add that we left out!

Thank you for your support On Pinterest, there are some pretty cool Scavenger Hunts for kids to do during these stay at home times. A couple of the outdoor ones are like pieces of art! Look at this one! I could frame it! she suggested twig pencils to complete this hunt. I found some here! This one is simple yet also beautiful. The kids could make the binoculars we talked about on this post and go out and do their hunt! But, what if you are on rainy day schedule? We've had a lot of rain this year here in Phoenix. How about you? Some of you still are in the midst of very cold weather! When I taught school, we always had to have things to do indoors during rainy days. Not only that, when I had school aged children at home, the house became cluttered quickly! That can be a real mood buster when everyone is stuck at home together. And finally, whether you are doing school work together or just having screen time and being bored, sometimes you just need a mental or physical break! So, because of all of that, I decided to come up with an Indoor Scavenger Hunt that would incorporate fun, learning, food, activity and clutter-busting all in one! I call it the Indoor Find and Do Scavenger Hunt. I had some of my grandchildren try the Scavenger Hunt out for me. It was fun to get the pictures of them doing something that grandma sent them to do. I sure do miss being with them! If you are a grandma missing your grandkids, It is really a blessing to have the ability to talk to them and do things with them over social media. Sending them a simple activity like this scavenger hunt is a gift they will remember. Directions: This isn't necessarily the kind of Scavenger Hunt that you would do all in one day and it isn't a race.
How is everyone doing out there? Do you all have enough toilet paper, hand sanitizer, and soap? What is your food supply looking like?
I don't have rolls of toilet paper to give away, but while you're camping out at home for the next couple of weeks with kids who have been pulled out of school, I wanted to give you a list of ideas to keep yourself sane, and not feel guilty about any sort of academic schedule. So I'm breaking this down into outside activities and inside activities. It's all fun and, often times, it will be educational without your kids even knowing it! Outdoor activities: I don't know what the weather is like near you. We had rain all week so the temps are nice and cool, but the sun has come back. If you live in a more temperate climate like us (no snow) then here are a few fun outdoor activities:
Indoor activities: If it's too cold outside for you, or you just want a change of pace, here are a few fun ideas to keep you and your kids occupied indoors
I hope this list really helps get you started and if you come up with ideas of your own, share them! We're all in this together, let's make it as fun as possible and take advantage of time to really reconnect with our kids!

My husband and I just got home last night from our vacation to Wyoming to visit our oldest son's family! We had so much fun and I can't wait to tell you about everything we did. But, that is going to take a lot of picture editing and writing, so you are going to have to wait until next week. You can get a few hints from the photos above about the fun time that we had.
In the meantime, I thought I would share with you some of the games that we played with our grandchildren while we were there. I don't know if you have noticed, but kids love having adults play board games with them and it is always more fun if they are games that the adults love as well as the kids do. Our grandchildren asked us to play with them as soon as we got there and as a game lover myself, I was game to learn what their current favorites are. I think that I am going to have to get a couple of these for myself now! What made me the happiest was seeing that my son and daughter-in-law took the time to play with their kids and build those lasting memories and relationships.
Some of these games were not only fun, but educational as well. I am including links to them in case you feel like purchasing them.
This game is like an updated form of Dominos. In this case players match colors and shapes and try to make Qwirkles (6 in a set) to win! My 4 year old grandson teamed up with me and he was learning his shapes, colors, counting and pattern making as we played. It was also a great exercise in problem solving and cognitive thinking.
Googly Eyes is much like a version of Pictionary except the person drawing the pictures wears vision altering glasses, which makes drawing much more difficult and also hilarious! My granddaughter, Shyanne, and I were a dream team, until she threw me over for her Aunt Lindsey! Ha ha ha. We had so much fun.
You are probably familiar with Ticket to Ride. There are many versions of this fun game. My son's family recently got this Europe version and I was amazed at how quickly the older 3 kids have mastered it. I love how this game teaches geography, problem solving, planning ahead, math skills for scoring and patience! We all love Ticket to Ride, no matter what version you play.
There is no reason to wait for a family game night to play these games, or any board game for that matter. Now that school is starting for everyone, it is more important than ever to make the time to spend quality time with your kids, giving them time to connect with you and have some fun. School can be stressful and games like these can help them relax while they are still learning without knowing it. What board games are fun for your entire family? I'd love to know.
