In my journey to learn more about using essential oils, I've accumulated quite a collection of them! I have to admit that my inventory of oils has far exceeded my knowledge of how to use them all effectively. I really love diffusing them and putting together different combinations to get the most pleasing and beneficial aromas. So, when I saw some ideas out there about using essential oils in room air fresheners, I was intrigued and then excited to find out how easy they are to put together and delighted with the idea of using something without harmful ingredients to scent my home. Some of the oils that I saw used in online recipes for essential oil room sprays weren't ones that I already have in my inventory. I decided to try to use what I have on hand and come up with some scents that I love and then use them to make Christmas gifts this year for friends and family! I'm sharing my recipes with you today! Supplies and Ingredients Needed:
The Recipes! I felt like a scientist coming up with these scents! I used a little dish to put a few drops of different oils that I thought would work together, keeping track of what I used and how many drops. When I found one I liked, I thought about what the scent reminded me of and then named it accordingly. My kitchen, where I was mixing and testing smelled so good as a result of my work! When you mix a 4 oz bottle of this spray, (in case you want to come up with your own scents), you will need to use at least 50 drops of oils per 4 oz bottle to get a scent that works to scent the air. I often used more than that to get the scent that I wanted. For the holidays, I came up with 4 different scents. I've made recipe cards for them and put them on a printable for you. If you click on the photo, you will get a pdf to print it out, easy peasy! Surprisingly, one of my favorite scents is Christmas Morning, which contains anise oil! I tried it on a whim, thinking that the licorice scent might not work, but I ended up loving it and thinking of the Christmas candies and scents of stockings and sweets when I was a child. Memories and scents are so intertwined! Holiday Joy is a nice blend that Doterra has that I love to use during the Christmas season. It would work well all by itself in a spray. I wanted to amp it up a bit with more citrus and frankincense. That's why I call it "Merriest" Holiday Joy. Frankincense was an oil that I used in 3 out of the 4 recipes. I mean, that seems obvious for Christmas, right? The warm scent of frankincense is believed to sooth the mind to help with meditation and is healthy on the skin as well! I used On Guard in one of the recipes because I figured during the holidays, we can all use some immune support! The citrus oils of Wild Orange, Lemon, and Tangerine add freshness and brightness to the recipes and make me think of the orange in the toe of my stocking on Christmas morning. Eucalyptus helps open airways and adds a distinctive scent. I used Spearmint rather than Peppermint in order to get a mint scent in a gentler way. Cedarwood, Douglas Fir and Siberian Spruce represent the Christmas Tree, giving a woodsy grounding scent. Once you've got your sprays all mixed up, you can label them like I did. I made sure that I listed the ingredients so that people would be able to know what is in the spray just in case they have a sensitivity to any of the oils. I'll give you the pdf for the labels I created. Just click on the photo for the pdf. I had so much fun creating these air freshening rooms sprays that I can't wait to create some other gifts using my essential oils! I love knowing what is going into these products and finding it comforting that the ingredients are beneficial to our health and not harmful!
