What better way to celebrate it than to learn more about amazing women in history, even recent history! We used to have a series here on the blog called "What to Read Wednesday." That kind of went by the wayside, but we thought we would bring it back this week and suggest some great titles to read about women that you may or may not have heard of. Maybe you can learn about someone new! And don't forget to check out our Women's History Coloring Pages available in our Etsy Shop! Madalynn suggested an autobiography that she remembered from High School. She was able to attend the National Geographic presentation of the author, Roz Savage, and her teacher purchased each student a book! Roz Savage rowed across the Atlantic Ocean solo and this book, Rowing the Atlantic, Lessons Learned on the Open Ocean is her story. Helen suggests an oldie but goodie. If you have never read Corrie Ten Boom's story in The Hiding Place, you are missing out. It is one of my very favorite books. It is the story of how she and her family assisted the Jews during WWII in the Netherlands and how her faith and hope helped her to survive in a concentration camp because of it. Alicia recommends The Magnificent Lives of Marjorie Post. This is a historical fiction novel, but is supposed to be very historically accurate. Written by Allison Pataki, it chronicles the life of the Post Cereal Heiress. The book is based off of Marjorie Post's letters and journals. Alicia read this one with her book club and really enjoyed it. Lindsey gave me two great suggestions. First-Reaching For the Moon: The Autobiography of NASA Mathematician Katherine Johnson I am embarrassed to say that I didn't know who Katherine Johnson was until Lindsey told me about this book and how we probably wouldn't have made it to the moon without her. There is even a movie about her called "Hidden Figures." So this is a book that I am going to read! Second-A book that is a classic that Lindsey has always loved, (so have I!) that is pretty autobiographical about Louisa Mae Alcott, Little Women. We have even visited her home in Concord, MA. It was amazing! If, by some chance, you've never read Little Women, it takes place during the Civil War and there have been various movie versions of the book made over the years, but nothing is better than the book itself. Share it with a young girl in your life! For More Ideas, Check out these related posts!

Great choices. I wish kids were reading more...I give my grand books and they never even get cracked open, sadly, despite she is brilliant and does well in school. Sandi
