I am so excited to share this post because I have learned to do something new! I used this post on The Bold Abode to learn how to use google drawing to make my own printables! You know how much I love printables, I've talked about it here. Now I can make fun gifts, and decorations for my own house that are more personal because they come from my head and heart and represent me! So, today I am sharing my first attempt at a printable with you. Of course, it had to have an owl on it! We are 3 Winks!
Okay, I was able to create the printable, but I am still not sure how to make it easily accessible as a PDF, so I will have Alicia look at it if possible. But, in the meantime, you can copy it and paste it onto your own page and print it. (I hope!) I am still learning, so please be patient with me. I guess that I won't be featured on Minted yet, but, look how cute!
I hope all of you owl/Halloween lovers out there will enjoy it!

Ever since I purchased this pumpkin soup tureen, I have been waiting for the moment that I would be able to put my Vegetable-Ham Bisque in it. The color of the soup is perfect for this Autumn themed pumpkin tureen. It rained really hard on Sunday, and this week the weather is only getting into the 80's! The mornings and the nights are actually a little brisk! Plus, don't forget, I purchased these beautiful squash!
So, soup had to be made. (Well actually, I still haven't brought myself to be able to cut the carousel squash. They are so beautiful! But, see the butternut squash on the right in the back? I used it for the soup. (If Walmart is all out, here is a similar tureen. And, I may have to get these little covered soup bowls for myself! (Probably two sets. Maybe three. Wouldn't they be cute sitting on the table as the opening soup course?) And, oh my goodness! Lindsey would love this set of pumpkin serving dishes!
I digress, let's make the soup to fill the dishes, shall we? Start with the vegetables. I peel everything for this dish because I don't want any random peels in the final product. I use a potato peeler to peel even the squash! It works really well. Then you cut it all into chunks and put it in a large pot...

Not only is it Cookie Quest Monday, but this week I will be talking about two versions of the Oatmeal Raisin Cookie that you will love! Here is the backstory:
Last week, my friend Lori sent me a message that had an idea she thought I should try in my Oatmeal Cookie Quest. She suggested browning the butter first. She says that she never makes cookies without doing this now because it enriches the flavor so much. She also increases the brown sugar and decreases the white sugar.. Well, of course, I had to try it! The First Attempt-Not Bad! I began with the basic recipe for Oatmeal Raisin Cookies on the side of a store brand of oatmeal! It called for all butter and 2 cups of flour with 3 cups of oats. I browned 1/2 of the butter first, then I poured it over the other half and melted it, as per Lori's instructions. Then I added 1 cup of brown sugar and 1/2 c. white sugar. This recipe called for 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon. I liked that extra cinnamon as most recipes call for just 1 tsp. I also added about 1/2 tsp of nutmeg. The dough was a little on the dry side, but it tasted wonderful with that browned butter in it, plus the extra brown sugar. When the cookies came out, they were slightly puffy. They deflated a little as they sat. What I loved about these cookies was that the outside was crispy with a chewy inside. They also held up to the milk test.
While I really liked this cookie, I kept thinking that it could be better. I had loved the flavor of last weeks cookie fromBaked by an Introvert. I decided that I would take elements of my favorites so far and come up with the best cookie yet. Here is the final recipe!
As soon as these cookies came out of the oven, I knew they were going to be amazing. They just looked right! You know what I mean. Look!
The amazing thing is that I used the same sized cookie scoop for both of these recipes, here is how they look side by side.
Hello lovelies, Lindsey here. I know I haven't posted in... well, ever. I was a little busy getting a job, working, meeting my Awesome Boyfriend, moving to work at a new job to live closer to Awesome Boyfriend. Working too much at my new job, changing Awesome Boyfriend's name to Best Fiance Ever, planning our wedding, getting married, moving in and unpacking., decorating, and organizing our home; also, changing Best Fiance Ever's internet name to Best Husband Ever, and changing my real name.... needless to say, it's been a lot.
HOWEVER! It is now October. There is something important you should know about me. I love pumpkin. I directly attribute the fall pumpkin craze that has taken over the world in the past couple of years to myself, and my two college friends K. Lowe and Sarah R. Eleven years ago on one fall night, after jumping in leaves, we decided to have a pumpkin party, to celebrate all things pumpkin. We had it on my birthday, which is October 29. Every year since then the Pumpkin Party has become my birthday party, except last year when life got a little derailed and I spent my birthday at a funeral and then driving nine hours to get back to my then Awesome Boyfriend, who planned a great birthday for me, including a counterful of pumpkin treats for me from himself and his mom, who at the time was not even quite my Future Mother in Law, so she was just really sweet to get me any birthday gifts at all.
Anyway, this year I decided to do posts in October about the pumpkin treats I make. This weekend is the Semi Annual General Conference for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. If you don't know what that is, it's five two hour sessions of leaders from the church (the Prophet, the Apostles, and other church leaders) teaching and speaking from the pulpit. These sessions are spread out over Saturday and Sunday. I don't know why, but most Mormons have the tradition of having Conference Cinnamon Rolls for breakfast as they snuggle down at the beginning of October or beginning of April (because Conference happens every six months) to watch the broadcast of these sessions.
The first two sessions of today have just finished. There is a third priesthood session tonight starting at 6 PM Mountain Time. You can watch it online at lds..org if you'd like (click on the name of the church above and it'll take you to the website.) Tomorrow morning the first session will start again at 10 AM Mountain Time. You can see why Conference Cinnamon Rolls would be perfect and appropriate.. So, I decided that I would make Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls, to start Conference and October off right!
Now I am going to be very upfront with you and tell you the recipe I found was terrible. Pinterest Let me down. Big Time.
I started last night finding this recipe, reading the blog where the writer raved about the deliciousness of it, then I commenced following her instructions to a T. The dough was too dry. That made me nervous and I thought about adding liquid, but it was sticking together so I thought I'd leave it to rise and see what happened. I covered the dough, and left it in a warm place and came back to it 2 1/2 hours later just like the recipe said... and the dough had not risen... Well.... that's okay! I thought. I mean, it had risen a little, so I'll roll it out, fill it and roll it up and cut it and then they'll proof over night and in the morning I'll pop them in the oven and they'll be delicious.
I don't know why I kept going except I had already gone to all that trouble so I felt like I should see it through. That's the same reason I kept reading Twilight and that didn't turn out well either. (I hate those stupid, stupid books.)
Here is a picture of the dough not rolling up. I gave up and tossed it into a bundt pan and decided that now I was making pumpkin pull apart bread.
In the morning I drizzled it with cinnamon honey and put it in the oven. I had hope it would turn out okay because the butter I had put in the center had soaked into the dough and softened it up a little more.
It came out of the oven and I cut out a piece and took a bite, and was severely disappointed. It was not good. You couldn't taste the pumpkin. There was some weird after taste to the dough. It didn't taste like cinnamon or pumpkin or sugar or butter or... anything good. All those ingredients, wasted!
Don't worry, Best Husband and I had bought some pumpkin eggnog last night so we had that (I felt like in the Pixar mug was appropriate) and I whipped up a quiche and I made a decision. I am going to create my OWN Pumpkin Cinnamon Roll recipe. It's going to be delicious, and I am going to do it tonight and we will eat them tomorrow (another day of Conference so it's not too late!) Then I will post my recipe here.
Come back tomorrow to find out what happens with my Pumpkin Cinnamon Roll test recipe tonight. Hopefully it'll turn out great and I'll be posting while happily enjoying the heavenly bliss of a soft, warm, delicious, pumpkin-y, cinnamon-y, cream cheese frosting-y Conference Pumpkin Cinnamon Roll!
