Great ways to use buttermilk
The big day finally happened!  My youngest son and his sweet fiancé were married! Everything was beautiful, and as often happens, I came home from the reception with lots of leftovers and perishable things that I didn't want to go to waste!  One of those things was about a gallon of buttermilk!
Why buttermilk at a wedding you may ask?  Well, the couple chose to have  a waffle bar at their reception and my dear friend Tracy used her fantastic recipe to make them for the event.
It is always difficult to determine how much food or ingredients you will need for such an event and my thinking is that it is always better to have too much rather than too little when it comes to food.  So, there was leftover buttermilk!
Well, another big event happened just 3 days after the wedding!  Alicia gave birth, 6 weeks early, to my newest grandson, Sebastian!

      We are so blessed!
Because I am flying off in a few days to be with Alicia and this new miracle, I need to quickly use up this leftover buttermilk and deal with other perishable items before I go! I hate waste! So, I've been looking for recipes and trying some out!
If you are ever in this situation and need to use up some buttermilk quickly, maybe these links will come in handy for you as well!
  • Buttermilk Pound Cake at Cake Whiz   I would definitely give this recipe a try if I didn't already have a ton of leftover wedding cake!  I'm filing this one for later.
  • Buttermilk Bread II from allrecipes  I've found that I can usually trust allrecipes.com to have good tasting successful recipes.  As I type, this bread is rising on my counter.

This Buttermilk Bread came out so good! Soft and tasty on the inside, toasty on the crust. I love it!

  • Homemade Buttermilk Bread from Red Star  I almost made this recipe because who can you trust if not the actual yeast company?  But I went with the previous recipe instead.  This recipe only makes one loaf and uses less buttermilk.  The allrecipes version let me double the recipe or even triple it, therefore using more buttermilk up.
  • Best Buttermilk Banana Bread from The Wholesome Dish Did I mention that I also came home from the reception with many bunches of bananas?  So, this recipe helps kill 2 birds with 1 stone.  I have this bread baking in my oven while the yeast bread rises.

This recipe makes 3 loaves easily!

  • Buttermilk Pie by Pioneer Woman  I contemplating making this pie for my husband after all of the bread is done.  It sounds pretty delicious.
  • Buttermilk Chess Pie from The Kitchen  This could also be a great choice!
  • Fluffy and Crisp Buttermilk Waffles from Brown Eyed Baker  I didn't get my friend's actual recipe, but she did tell me that one of her secrets is to whip up the eggs until they are really fluffy.  I'll keep that in mind if I make this recipe.
  • Buttermilk Syrup from allrecipes  If you're going to make waffles, you might as well give this syrup a try.  It looks and sounds amazing! Alicia posted a Buttermilk Syrup Recipe on this post to go over Aebleskivers!  I've made it and I could simple eat it with a spoon it is so good.

  • Chocolate Buttermilk Pudding from Serious Eats  This may replace the pie idea! It looks so good!
  • Air-Fried Breaded Chicken Thighs from allrecipes (again)  A nice fried chicken for the air fryer sounds like a great idea! I'll bet the buttermilk lends a nice flavor to this dish.
Do you have a favorite way to use buttermilk? I would love to hear what it is.   I think the yeast bread came out so well that it may become my go to method for making a white bread.  Let us know what you think if you give it a try!
