Friday Faves #46-Our Favorite Card Games

One day last week was National Play a Card Game Day. I was going to write this post then, but my new granddaughter was born and that post just didn't happen. But, since playing games is a big deal in our family, and because we had already come up with a bunch of our favorites to share with you, I thought I would go ahead and do that post today for Friday Faves #46! We came up with a bunch of card games that we really enjoy. Some are old favorites and speak for themselves in the collage above. Others are unconventional, but still use cards. Most of our choices have their own specialty card decks. So, here we go!

Last year, Tyler and Jessica received Dutch Blitz as a Christmas gift and I have loved it ever since. It is fast paced and so much fun! Because I am a grandmother, I am not as fast at it and Madalynn and Jessica always beat me. But, I am getting better! I love it anyway. I guess I am a glutton for punishment. I just noticed that there is an expansion pack for it that I will have to check out!

Skip-Bo is a classic and one of Lindsey's favorites. Dutch Blitz is similar to Skip-Bo. In both games the object is to be the first to get rid of your pile of 10 cards. I think you would call Skip-Bo just a little more civilized because you take turns!

Alicia told me about Exploding Kittens. I haven't played it yet, but the description is intriguing. "Exploding Kittens is a card game for people who are into kittens and explosions and laser beams and sometimes goats." I can't wait to try it!

Alicia and Adrian got me hooked on Dominion. It is such a great game and there are many expansion packs to keep it fresh and exciting! Along with a little luck, it requires tactics and strategy. I never tire of it!

Similar to Dominion because you are building an empire and trying to get rich is Citadels. In this game, you get to be the King, or the Assassin or a multitude of other characters with powers to wield against your opponents.

Alicia and Adrian gave me Things for Christmas this year. I have only gotten to play it once so far, but it was lots of fun! It makes a great game for a group because it helps you learn how everyone else thinks and if you think you know someone, you may find out that they can still surprise you! How would you answer the question, "What activity might put out an eye?" It comes in a nice wooden box with everything you need to play inside.

My DIL Korina received another fun group game called Name 5 Game. This is a game that is played in teams and you are given about 30 seconds to name 5 things within any given subject. It is surprising how easy it is to name 4 things! Sometimes that 5th thing is elusive!

There you have it! Besides Hearts, Rummy, Uno and Spot IT, those are some great games that we would recommend to game playing families like we are.
