A couple of weeks ago our women's group at church had a crafting day and one of the projects we made were tile coasters decoupaged with scrapbook paper. They came out very pretty! Because I was teaching a different craft, (the bookstacks!), I simply brought home my coaster supplies with me to finish at home. While I was thinking about making them, I was also thinking about our churches' general conference that is coming up in October and wondering how I could best remember some of the messages and incorporate them into my life. Perusing Pinterest, I found a beautiful set of past conference quotes that someone had designed into little square note sized cards. They were created by Aretta who has the blog, My Upside Down Umbrella. They are beautiful illuminations of quotes from conference in 2022. I thought that they would be perfect to add to my coasters! Since she offers them as a free download, it was so easy to do! (She also has April 2023 quotes here!) Materials Needed:
The Process: First-Choose the paper that you would like to use as your background. Trace the tile on it to get the correct size to cut out and cover the entire front of your tile. I chose these colors because they complimented the quotes that I was going to use. Next-Use the Mod Podge and cover the entire front of the tile with a thin, even coat with it. Then, lay your paper on it, pushing out any bubbles or air trapped beneath it. Allow to dry for a few minutes. Then-Brush another coat of Mod Podge over the top of the paper and allow to dry. While the Mod Podge is drying, cut out your quotes to fit centered over the scrapbook paper. Apply another coat of Mod Podge, (yes, that makes 3 coats), and carefully center the quote on top of the tile. Once again, press out any bubbles and allow to dry. You may notice that you have to give many coats of Mod Podge in this tutorial, but because this is a craft that will be exposed to water, I wanted to give the decorative paper and quotes a lot of protection. So, after that coat of Mod Podge dries, put 2 more coats over the top of the quote paper. Of course, the purpose of coasters is to protect your furniture from water rings. So, you can't have the backs of the tiles scratching your furniture finish! The next thing to do is to add a felt backing onto these tiles. I found some blue felt in my stash that I felt went pretty well with the colors I had used. I traced around the tiles and then cut to the inside of the line that I had traced. I don'twant the felt to show much when the tile is sitting on my furniture. If you want your felt to fit all of the way to the edge of your tile, of course you can do that. Also, some of the tiles that you can purchase online come with cork backing that you can use instead of felt. I am so excited for conference to get here this year! I may take note of the quotes that I love and design my own printable with them to make more of these! I'll let you know if I do!

OHMYGOSH I love these coasters!!! I think I just found my Christmas gift craft for this year! Do you think the Mod Podge will hold up against a hot coffee mug? I may have to research that, but I really, really love your coasters!!!! PS: I found you on Grammy's Grid's, "I Made it Monday" link party! ~Sally Cox

Mod Podge sticks to hot coffee mugs and neither Lowes or Home Depot have the square tiles anymore. My Lowe's say they haven't had them for over 2 years now
