Rocketship Birthday Cake...Hey, that gives me an idea!

  My grandson, Connor, turned two a few days ago.  I wanted him to have a little party, but everyone's schedules are so hectic that it was almost impossible to plan.  Then I remembered the small group of moms and kids from our church who get together at the park once a week.  It just so happened that the group was getting together right on Connor's birthday! I thought "easy party!" So, my daughter-in-law (Connor's mom who had to work that day) posted on facebook that I was going to bring cupcakes for Connor's birthday! So, lots of people showed up and we had tonsof fun! Connor loved it.
  I made white cupcakes with green frosting, and I just happened to have some little owl picks and cupcake holders to make them special! 

  I know that the owls are pink, but 2 year old Connor didn't mind.


  Well, that night was going to be the family party, so the real cake had to be made.  Older sister Jayda, Connor and I looked at the internet to decide what kind of cake he would like.  We saw some rocketships and that is what got Connor excited, so that is what we did.
  I just made a regular 9 x 13 sheet cake and cut off the top cornors to make the point, and cut out two rectangle sections to leave the place where the fire comes out to propell the rocket into the sky.  (What is that called?)
  I used my homemade frosting, and homemade fondant to do the decorating.  Here is the fondant recipe that I have posted before. http://threewinksdesign.weebly.com/3-winks-writes/finally-dipped-chocolates-in-time-for-easter.
  Just make sure it is nice and thick so you can roll it.  Add food coloring in the colors that you want.

  Here is how it turned out.  As you can see, I used red, blue and yellow colored fondant.  The green is frosting.  The extra cupcakes have fondant stars.  It was hot in the house, so my frosting got a little soft, but Connor loved it.  I frosted the entire cake with a thin coat of frosting, then applied the fondant. It tasted pretty good.  

  He wasnt sure what to do with the candles, so his siblings had to help him blow them out.
   Anyway, I got to thinking, if you wanted to do a full blown outer space birthday party in the winter time, You could use Hot Cocoa Bombs (http://threewinksdesign.weebly.com/3-winks-writes/do-you-want-to-build-a-cocoa-bomb-the-3-winks-way) and add fins and turn them into little rockets that you could splash down into your hot milk!  Hmmm, I may try that and let you see the results later.
  It is too hot in Phoenix for Hot Cocoa Bombs right now, but you can be sure that they will make an appearance here again!
