As you know, in our house we've had to go gluten free. My husband (actually me) figured out about two years ago that gluten did not agree with him. Since that time I've done some experimenting on some of our favorite recipes so my husband could still enjoy them. Well, with Thanksgiving coming up I want to share a few recipes with you for the gluten free person in your life, so they can still enjoy all the Thanksgiving favorites, just in a gluten free way! As I've said, pie is our speciality, and here are two great gluten free crust options!
Gluten Free Pecan Crust This is a great crust option that works well with pumpkin, or go crazy and do a pecan crust with your pecan pie! Your gluten free pecan pie lover will be so happy! Gluten Free Coconut Flour Crust This crust would work really well for a gluten free lemon meringue pie, or go ahead and make this lemon curd pie. It really is SO SO good. Add a dollop of whipped cream and you're set. Gluten Free Turnip Fries Root vegetables are a great staple at Thanksgiving. Turnips are naturally gluten free, and this recipe is a great way to make and enjoy them this Thanksgiving! Gluten Free Pan de Yuca Alicia shared this tasty recipe a few years ago. It is an Ecuadorian dish and we've enjoyed it several times when she and Adrian have come to visit for the holidays. It is a great savory side to your Turkey, and, it's gluten free!!

Thanksgiving is only a few weeks away (are you following our Thanksgiving Prep guide?) and as a vegan, this has always been a time filled with uncertainty for me.
Let's face it. Most classic Thanksgiving dishes are not naturally vegan friendly. And I don't expect everyone else to cater to my dietary needs. But it's always nice to have a few dishes that we can all enjoy together as a family. I mean, isn't that part of Thanksgiving? Family togetherness? That's why I wanted to compile this list of vegan dishes to include at your Thanksgiving table this year. Whether it's for you, a family member, or heck- maybe you're throwing an entire vegan Thanksgiving!- I wanted these to be dishes that are easy to prepare that everyone can enjoy together. I've also included some tips at the bottom that will help you create the perfect Thanksgiving Spread. Let's jump in! butternut squash soup
This Butternut Squash Soup recipe from Cookie and Kate would make the perfect main dish. It's easy to share, warm, and filling. Not to mention butternut squash is perfect for this time of year. Top with nutmeg or some pumpkin seeds for a really beautiful display. YUM!
*Please note that the original recipe isn't vegan, but Kate gives great suggestions for making it vegan. coconut creamed corn
This Coconut Creamed Corn recipe Alicia blogged about last year would be a zesty take on the Thanksgiving classic side.
My mouth is already watering just thinking about this! mashed potatoes
What's Thanksgiving without mashed potatoes?
That's right. Nothing. This Vegan Mashed Potato recipe from Minimalist Baker is actually the recipe I always use. They're creamy and flavorful and always a hit! mac and cheese
Mac and cheese was one of the hardest things for me to let go of when I transitioned to a vegan lifestyle (seriously).
But this Vegan Mac and Cheese recipe from Vegan Yumminess reminds us that lack of cheese doesn't mean lack of flavor. And I mean, come on. Looking at that picture you'd never be able to tell it's dairy-free. It's just as creamy and delicious as any mac and cheese should be! cranberry orange sauce
This is the first time I've ever shared this recipe, but it is a Thanksgiving staple for me.
I've been making this cranberry orange sauce every year since becoming vegan and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon. It's so easy to make and has the perfect balance between the sweet oranges and the tangy cranberries. I'll post my recipe for this below! Glazed Sweet Potatoes
Growing up, I was never really a fan of sweet potatoes. It was the same way into my adulthood. In fact, I didn't start really appreciating sweet potatoes until I became vegan. Now I can't get enough of them!
And this Glazed Sweet Potato recipe from Detoxinista is one of my favorite ways to enjoy the little guys. This recipe reminds me alot of a glazed carrot dish my mom has made me before (she uses vegan butter for me). Carrots or sweet potatoes, this recipe is a winner! apple pie
Apple pie was always one of my favorites growing up and, luckily for me, my mom's recipe is accidentally vegan! Making this Vegan Apple Pie is definitely going to continue to be a tradition of mine.
Oh and the best part? The crust is my grandma's recipe and also accidentally vegan! So I haven't had to change a single part of my childhood favorite. Thanks, mom! snickerdoodle cookies
A warm snickerdoodle cookie is one of my favorite desserts, especially during fall. These Vegan Snickerdoodle Cookies from Loving It Vegan would be the perfect dessert to bring to Thanksgiving this year!
tips for the perfect thanksgiving spread
Of course, your Thanksgiving table is about far more than just the dishes you bring (but these vegan Thanksgiving dishes are pretty perfect!). These extra touches will ensure your vegan Thanksgiving is on another level.
I hope these tips help you. Whether you're able to gather with loved ones to celebrate Thanksgiving this year, or you're confined to the members of your household, I hope these vegan Thanksgiving recipes find their way to your table. If you try any, be sure to let us know what you think! Cranberry Orange Sauce RecipeYou may also enjoyThis post contains affiliate links. I don't know if you are like me, but when I see those cute fun foam or felt kits that the craft stores have for kids to do, I just want to buy them all and make them with my grandkids. But then, I end up with a bunch of little cute ornaments or just plain figures that I don't really know what to do with besides sit them on my shelves or hang on the tree. So, when Emily brought me this cute owl with her hand prints as the wings, I thought to myself that there must be better ways to use them and enjoy the memories that come with creating them together. So, I brainstormed and created with some of my grandkids and we came up with a few ideas that we hope you will love! Place Cards and Napkin Rings:
Garlands:
Gifts: Of course the children can give just the craft all by itself as an ornament or a refrigerator magnet. But here are a few of other ideas to expand their choices.
Make a Wreath! While I was looking at different craft kits at Hobby Lobby, I found a white garland of pom poms. (They have lots of choices.) I thought, what a great idea to make a wreath with this and the felt Santa kits that I have! It came out so cute! Here is what I did:
My grandkids are going to love it!
There are so many different kits to choose from, you can make any theme. A Nativity Wreath would be a great way to talk about the true meaning of Christmas as you craft it together. Can you think of other ways to use these festive craft kits? Let me know in the comments! This post contains affiliate links. This Interactive Activity Tutorial post is 4 years old! It was very popular at the time and it still feels like a great idea, so we thought we would share it with you again! Hope you love it. I am so excited about this post because it is an idea I came up with after Lindsey's wedding and I have finally brought it into reality! You may remember for the guest sign in at my daughter's wedding reception, we used a frame filled with love idea. It was such a popular idea and my husband, daughter and I had so much fun collaborating on it. After the wedding was over, I was thinking that there had to be other applications for that type of interactive frame, because I loved the idea so much and I wanted to use it again. Guess what! I came up with a bunch of ideas! The first one is the frame I showed you above. I found the free printable at LostBumblee. I fell in love with it instantly because the words are a line from a favorite church hymn. Also, it has three little owls at the bottom, and we are 3 Winks, so you know, I couldn't pass it up. So, thanks Missie! My idea is that this would be a great way to have family and friends actually Count Their Blessings during the Thanksgiving Season in an interactive way. Heaven knows that in this year, we need to search for gratitude to make it through the trials! If you are having guests over for dinner, you could have them all write something and drop it into the frame. It will be a visual reminder of all of our blessings and reasons to feel gratitude. I gave you a tutorial here but this time I wanted to do things slightly less expensive and perhaps easier to change out. Here is what I did. Click on the pictures. Next idea! Just think, you could find a Christmas Countdown printable and use stars with numbers on them to drop in to count down the days until Christmas! Here is a cute one from Our Southern Home. Or, here is a cute one from Yellow Bliss Road. I might do that for my grandchildren. But, my next idea is going to be this one: . I love this line from "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing". This print is from i should be mopping the floor. It is perfect for my next idea. This one is another frame filled with love, meaning the love we receive from God. I thought wouldn't it be wonderful to have a visual reminder of the scriptures we read that touch us and the small and large miracles that happen in our daily lives? This is still about gratitude and Thanksgiving, but all through the year. I can hardly wait to get this interactive frame done because I already know a few things that I want to write on a heart and store in this frame so that on the days when I am blue, I can look at this and be reminded of His love for me. Because, what is that other line that I love from the hymn? "Here's my heart, Oh take and seal it, Seal it for thy courts above." Perhaps you will have some of your own inspiration when it comes to this frame idea! If you do, send me a picture and tell me about it! Thanks for being here! |
