Old jeans project #6: Embroidery

     First of all, you may be wondering where we have been.  Well, covid hit our household big time and for awhile nothing has been happening around here.  As a matter of fact, we still are have some problems because of this horrible virus and frankly, blogging hasn't seemed very important to me.  It is a very interesting thing how a near death experience can change your perspective about what is important in your life.  Thankful, recovery is happening and everyone is headed in the right direction.  I still owe you 2 projects in this Old Jeans Project Series, so here is project #6!

      Embroidery has experienced a rise in popularity lately and embroidery on denim really looks adorable!  

     You can sketch out your own design onto your fabric, or do what I did and use an iron on pattern.  

Here are the supplies that you will need: 

• embroidery hoop
• scissors
• iron on pattern
• embroidery floss
• embroider needles

Steps:

1. Decide on the size hoop that you want to embroider in.  I used a 4" hoop.  Stretch your fabric inside the hoop.  This will give you an outlined of where to press your design. 
2. Take the denim out of the hoop and center your pattern within the circle that you made by stretching the fabric inside the hoop.  Follow the directions on the pattern and iron the design onto the denim.  This won't work with a dark wash, only one light enough to show the pattern ink.
3. Stretch the denim back into the hoop.  Now you are ready to begin stitching.  If you are unfamiliar with embroidery stitches, the pattern sets will have some basic directions to follow.
4. When you are finished, trim away the excess denim around the back of the hoop! 

     I made this little bluebird for my granddaughter's new bedroom.  I want to make her a  rainbow to go with it because she wants a rainbow bedroom, so I will give her this happy little bluebird flying beyond the rainbow!
