Spring Cleaning Tips and Handout
The women in our church group had a very successful activity last night!  It was so easy to plan and was a very enjoyable night.  Here is what we did:
The Theme was about organizing our homes as well as our inner spiritual lives.
  • We gave everyone the opportunity to bring things from their homes that they wanted to get rid of as they organized their homes.  The items were laid all around the large gym in our church building and everyone could "shop" and take whatever they wanted.  All of the leftover items were taken to our church's thrift store.  If you did this activity, you could choose any thrift store that is in your area.
  • We collected donations for an organization called "Days For Girls."  Since people were cleaning out things anyway, we thought this would be a great way for them to find things to help girls and women around the world.
  • We had a speaker who taught us 3 simple ways to be more organized in our homes and then related them to how we can use those methods in our spiritual lives as well. The message was short and simple, not nagging or finger wagging.  It gave us all food for thought and was just perfect!
  • We had a potluck dinner because it seemed to go best with the theme of the evening.  There was some really good food! (I brought these treats and a strawberry fluff salad with strawberries from my garden!)
We kept The Decorations simple since most of the space was taken up with the stuff people brought!
  • We used green plastic tablecloths on the tables to brighten things up!
  • I made some handouts from Dollar Tree Sponges  that were inexpensive and brightly colored.  We put them in baskets in the center of the tables.  The baskets were also from Dollar Tree.  The scripture I used on the attached card came from Doctrine and Covenants 88:119.  Feel free to print the cards from the link below.  I attached the cards to the sponges with baker's twine and a button.

I think they looked colorful and cute in the baskets.
Here is the link for the cards.  It has a white background so that you can print it on any color cardstock.
Organize Yourselves
At the end of the activity, everyone pitched in to clean-up and to load up the leftover items into a waiting truck and trailer.  The clean-up went pretty quickly with many hands and everyone went home happy to homes a little bit lightened of things that didn't want and/or with new items that they really needed.

I love this spring cleaning activity. What a great spring cleaning gathering at your church. Thanks for sharing the link to the Days For Girls charity. It sounds like a fabulous organization for a profound cause indeed.

Thank you so much for sharing this activity with Sweet Tea & Friends this month dear friend.
