Turtle Dipped Pretzels Recipe

On the the second day of Christmas, my true love gave to me… 2 Turtle doves, which inspired this Turtle Dipped Pretzels recipe!

If you've never heard of turtles before (the candy, that is) they are typically pecans coated in caramel and chocolate. This is my take on them.

These are a quick, easy, and delicious snack to make for the holiday season (or any season, really). They’re also vegan and gluten free, so they’re great for sharing! Keep reading to the end for my tips on making them.

​My Tips for Making These

• The caramel hardens quickly, so if you opted to use a microwave to melt your caramel, you may have to microwave again in the middle of dipping. I microwave in intervals of 10 seconds, stirring in between each time until it is all melted. Just be super careful with hot caramel as it can cause painful burns if it sticks to you!
• My favorite vegan caramel to use is Cocomels and I prefer the sea salt variety, but they also have other varieties.
• I used Snack Factory gluten free pretzels because on top of being gluten free and vegan, they were the perfect size for what I wanted. All the other gluten free pretzels I looked at were either too small (mini) or the pretzel sticks were way too thin. These are still small enough to be bite sized, but thick and sturdy enough to not easily break.
• For vegan chocolate chips, I prefer to use Enjoy Life as they are super allergy friendly. But, it is fairly easy to find vegan chocolate chips if you can’t get these ones. Kroger has some in their Simple Truth brand and the giant bags you can get at Costco are also vegan. Just check the labels at your local grocery store and I’m sure you can find some! ​
