Around our house during the holidays, playing games is big! Since we have such a big family, it is a lot of fun to have games that can include everyone who wants to play. I've written a couple of other posts suggesting party games and board games that include a lot of players.
Well, I got to thinking that one classic game that can include everyone is Charades. If your young ones enjoy watching Frozen II, they will recognize Charades from the beginning of that movie. I thought wouldn't it be great to have a Christmas version of Charades all ready to go? So, I sat down with Lindsey and a few of my grandkids and we brain stormed ideas that would be great to include in a game of Christmas Charades. Let me tell you, we did pretty good! This game includes 83 items to act out in 6 different categories!
I sent the list to Alicia, and she designed the rules and tips sheets and the cards. Then, I printed them all off on some cute coordinating Christmas card stock. You can pick up a pad of Christmas card stock at Hobby Lobby for a good price.
Now, all you have to do is click the button to get the PDF file, print them off and cut them apart with a paper cutter. Then, you are ready to play! You're welcome! Merry Christmas!
So, go ahead, click the button! (Be sure you have plenty of red ink. Mine came out a little orange.) You could also send them to Staples or Office Max to get them printed if you want. You can always use white card stock instead of the Christmas print, but I love the Christmas print.
I have to confess that I accidentally printed the rules in landscape at first. I had to reprint that part. But, it turned out to be a lucky thing because I cut out the title of the game and taped it with wide clear tape onto a manila envelope to label the game and store it to use again and again. You could always just print the first page twice, or you could laminate the rules onto the front and back of the envelope. If you make it look fancy enough, this could even be an inexpensive gift to a friend or neighbor with a large family. (By inexpensive, I mean practically free, except for the paper and ink!)
We even included some blank cards so that you can add some of your own ideas to act out! I already thought of one we forgot, "Deck the Halls." Hmm, how would you act out "Deck" or "Halls" in charades? Could be a tricky one!
I can hardly wait to have a familt get together and play this version of Charades! I think it will be a ton of fun! I hope that you will enjoy playing Christmas Charades with your family as well. Let me know if you think of good things to add that we left out!

My son and his wife have moved an hour and a half away from us, taking with them 2 of our grandchildren! It isn't as bad as the ones who live 12 hours away in different directions, but it still kills me! So, I have determined that an hour and a half really isn't that terrible, and I am going to make that drive as often as I can to visit them, if only just for a day. The Grandparent adventure booklets that we told you about in this post are going to help me make those visits memorable! These two particular grandchildren are ages 2 and 4, a girl and a boy respectively. I had the smaller books printed off for them because I thought that they would be great for their tiny hands. You can choose to print off a booklet that says "Adventures with Grandparents" or "...Grandma" or "...Grandpa." I meant to print off Grandparents, but accidentally printed Grandma, so I just wrote, "& Grandpa" on mine. You may be wondering what I put in that Tupperware container! Since my granddaughter is 2 years old, I know that she would love to bake and decorate cookies with me. We've done that at my house before. I've already made her a little apron to wear when she helps her mommy cook or when she plays in her play kitchen. One of the pages of the book suggests that grandparents cook together with their grandchildren. I decided that if I'm driving up there for an afternoon, we could spend a little bit of time just decorating the cookies, so I put together a cookie kit a gift that we can do together. I put in the pre-baked sugar cookies, a container of my homemade frosting and some little packages of sprinkles. (I love those little $1 packs that you can get at Michael's.) I made sure to put in pink sprinkles because they are her favorite color! I packed everything in Tupperware to keep it all fresh and safe. I love decorating cookies with kids. They have so much fun. I wrote about my method of keeping everything somewhat organized when decorating with kids on this post. My grandson, who is 4 years old, is a really good artist. He loves to draw and he enjoys having me draw with him as we watch Art for Kids Hub on YouTube. It is a lot of fun. One of the pages in the grandparents booklet suggests doing art with your grandchildren. So, I went to DollarTree and bought him a giant art sketch pad and some new crayons. I know that he already has crayons, but who doesn't love a nice fresh box? The fun part will be that they will both want to participate in the other's activity, which will be great and we can color in 2 parts of the booklet that day! I'm so excited to get up there, see the new house and have some fun with these cute little ones! I'll try to remember to post pictures on Instagram! Have you thought of ideas for experience gifts to give to your grandchildren? Share them with me! And head over to our Etsy Shop and pick up your own PDF Files of the booklet or the poster! They will be a great way to give Christmas gifts this year!

Since it's October I thought I would share a fun and easy decoration to make for your home. Your kids or grandkids might enjoy doing this with you as well.
Since we're doing Halloween at home I wanted to make it extra fun with our decorations. I decided to show my kids how to make those little garlands where it looks like all the people are holding hands, but with a Halloween twist!
My kids were so amazed and happy when I unfolded the garlands. They loved them!
So today I have a free subscriber printable of these stencils. I went with fun monster faces for these. They're simple to cut out and would be great practice for your young scissor users.I had my son (5) cut out the big outline and then I cut out the face details. He also traced the stencil onto the construction paper. I made these stencils to fit a regular sized piece of construction paper when folded into fourths. If your paper is a little different size than mine, no worries, just make sure that you don't cut the sides completely and your garland should still work.
To make the stencils:

Sunday is Grandparents Day and because my husband and I are the proud grandparents of 11 grandchildren, I decided that this is the perfect time to introduce a project that Alicia and I have been working on together. Well, I did a lot of the imagining and Alicia did all of the fabulous artwork and design. The inspiration for this project came from the ideas for experience gifts that I see many grandparents doing for their grandchildren. I thought that it would be great to have a way to record and keep memories of those grandparent/grandchild times together. I also wanted to suggest ideas for experience gifts that grandparents on fixed incomes and small budgets could afford and yet still be something that children would look back on with fondness as well as be excited about in the moment. Alicia and I brainstormed and came up with a long list of ideas and put them into categories and then Alicia set to work drawing and designing. I sent the finished design to Staples to get it printed as a huge, interactive poster. That is easy and inexpensive to do. Then, because I had 2 grandchildren staying with me for the summer, I used them as my guinea pigs to see how they liked the poster. They really liked it and it was so endearing and fun to hear from them the things that they wanted to include on the poster that meant something to them. They would think of ways to make the activities we did fit into the poster categories. They also would look at the ideas and come up with activities for us to do together on their own. It was a lot of fun! My main focus for this project has been the idea of giving the chart as a gift along with a date set in stone to do a certain activity with your grandchild. With the holidays right around the corner, this is a good start to your holiday shopping list. You can give the poster along with an item that goes along with your planned activity! Here is a list of ideas and some links to get your juices flowing. Experience Categories and gift ideas:
Here is a gallery of pics showing some of the things we did with our grandkids this summer. I can't wait to make memories with the rest of my grandchildren! There are so many other activities that you could fit into this chart that I didn't list. Since I was going for inexpensive, I didn't include horseback riding or water skiing. But those could totally go under "new skill" or "swimming". If you have any great ideas for experience gifts for our grandchildren, I know that I would love to hear them. Please share in the comment section below. We have also made this poster into a booklet form if you think that would be a better way for your grandchild to keep their memories. There is the option to print a full sheet booklet or to get two half sheet booklets. We included some blank pages in it where you can add more experiences that we didn't include on our list. And, there is room for pictures! (We glued pictures on the poster sometimes, too.) I have sent the booklet to be printed at Staples. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten it back in time to share pictures with you today. There is always the option of printing the booklet yourself on your home computer, but that can be a little tricky when you figure out how to print them back to back. It can be done though! If you send it to a place like Staples be sure to give the instruction to print the book "head to head." We are making these posters and booklets available in our Etsy Shop! They are available with the words "Adventures with Grandparents", "With Grandma" or "With Grandpa", whichever fits your situation. For this Grandparents Weekend, we're running a special on them, so don't miss out! While you are checking out the Etsy Shop, don't forget to check out the Pie Book and the Hot Cocoa Bomb Idea Book, (which is soon going to have an addition)! Fall is the time to start making pie and hot chocolate! Our Favorite! Aren't you just so excited for Fall and the holidays that go with it? If you use these experience ideas, you have a good start on your holiday gift giving! Be sure to give us some love in the comments!
